Beyond Belief – Rev. Larry Trotter
Main Idea: The time to move from believing in Jesus to following Jesus is now. Topic: Matthew was a hated tax collector. Jesus called him to become a disciple while Matthew was still sitting at his tax booth. Matthew immediately got up and followed him. Many times we wait until we get our act to together to try to follow Jesus and become involved in church. This is backwards. If we have any hope of moving beyond just believing in Jesus to following him, we have to start following while our lives are still messed up in order to experience the transformation Jesus desires to bring.

Beyond Belief: Beyond Control – Rev. Mike Stallings
    Text: Matthew 14:22-33
Main Idea: We don’t learn to trust God and then surrender control of our lives. We learn to trust God by surrendering control of our lives to God and finding God to be faithful.
Topic: Many of us who believe in God have never trusted God enough to surrender control of our lives to God. Step 3 of the 12 steps states “We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over the care of God as we understood Him.” When Peter stepped out the boat to walk on the water he was trusting Christ enough to turn his life over to him. The rest of the disciples stood and watched. And when the waves got big enough even Peter doubted. If we are going to allow God to answer our prayers for healing we will need to surrender control of our lives to God and allow God to heal in God’s way by God’s means in God’s time.
